A Word From The Head

Rights of the Child

” Thank you for visiting our school website.

St Mary’s R.C. Primary School is a faith school in Brynmawr, Blaenau Gwent. It serves the parishes of St Mary’s Brynmawr, St. Mary’s Abertillery and the former parish of St. David’s Llanhilleth. There are eight classes, including a full time nursery. The school is a Voluntary Aided Roman Catholic Primary School and is part of the Cardiff Archdiocese.

On behalf of the children, parents, staff and governors, I am delighted to introduce you to our school and trust that you will learn more about us on our web site.

As Headteacher I feel very blessed to lead such a special school. The children think our school is special too and you can find out why as you browse our website. St Mary’s Primary School is a happy, caring school built on the Christian principles of love, compassion and respect.

The school was inspected in the Summer of 2009 and received very positive reports from both Estyn Inspectors and the Section 50 Inspectors. The inspectors recognised the outstanding care, support and guidance offered to all pupils in our care. They described our school as a thriving school which was committed to raising standards of all our pupils.

These comments may give you a flavour of our school but a visit to see the children learning independently and collaboratively within a stimulating learning environment will give you an even better picture. We have embraced the Foundation Phase curriculum for 3 – 7 year olds and Curriculum 2008 for Key Stage 2 pupils. We also value learning outside the classroom – in clubs, at home, on school trips and residential visits.

The parents are very supportive of the school and, through The Parent Teacher Association (PTA), raise a significant sum of money which enriches the provision of the school. The school values its partnerships with parents and the wider school community and seeks to further these at every opportunity.

Mr T. Pritchard is the Chairman of Govenors and is supported by a group of committed, well qualified governors. They meet 6 times a year in order to support the management and statutory duties of the school. They can be contacted via the school office.

We have an open door policy at the school. Please feel free to make an appointment to see me or to pop in to see me if you have any concerns or questions – my door is always open.

We hope that you will enjoy being a part of our school family. If you would like further information or a visit to the school, please ask. I look forward to getting to know you and your family.

We are a busy but friendly school, with lots going on. This website aims to give you a taster of the school, as well as providing regular updated information for both parents and pupils.

Thank you for visiting! “
